FACIAL PALSY:RECONSTRUCTION OF ORAL DEFORMITIES MANAGED BY DIGASTRIC MUSCLE TRANSFER,CROSS-FACE NERVE GRAFT
Kim Dong-Chul

Abstract
A patient with facial palsy shows a odious deformities by a loss of facial expression and distortion of facial symmetry. One of the most distressing figure in the patient is oral deformities, but numerous corrective methods to suit the end results are still unsatisfactory.

Cases of paralysis of lower facial paralysis following unresolved Bell¡¯s palsy corrected by transfer of Anterior belly of Digastric muscle had early satisfactory results with dynamic support, and this method might have a place in muscle transfer mediated by facial nerve.

A case of complete unilateral facial palrlysis 3 months following pontine hemorrhage was managed by microtransfer of cross-face sural nerve graft. In case of nerve graft, a 14 months follow up showed considerable voluntary movement of paralysed lip & cheek muscle and improvement of oral asymmetry, the EMG studies showed a positive pattern of volititional activity.
